Tun Dr. Ismail College (KTDI) was one of the earliest residential college built in UPM Serdang's campus. Previously reffered to as "Third" which carries the meaning of number 3 represents it as the third residential college built after First College and the Second College.
The construction process began in February 1973 abd completed on July 1975. As part of the project under Second Malaysia Plan, the government has constituted a total of MYR2.3 million for the college's construction.
The new name for the college was chosen in the honors of the Nation's legendary figure, Tun Dr. Ismail, the second Vice President of Malaysia, as a tribute on his sacrifices and credibility as one of the Nation authority leaders. The name "Tun Dr. Ismail College" was officially used on January 1st, 1995.
