College History

Tun Dr. College Ismail (KTDI) is one of the earliest colleges built on the UPM Serdang campus. KTDI which used to be known by the nickname "Third" which means 'third' is the third college developed after the First and Second Colleges.

The construction process started from February 1973 and was fully completed in July 1975. As one of the projects under the Second Malaysia Plan, the government has spent a total of RM2.3 million for the construction of this college.

The new name of this college is taken in conjunction with the name of the country's respected figure, Tun Dr. Ismail, the second Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, as a tribute to his services and stature as one of the country's authoritative leaders. College Name Tun Dr. Ismail was officially used on January 1, 1995.

In 2019, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) has created a merger plan involving residential colleges which is the Governance Transformation Plan. The purpose of this plan is to maximize the use of manpower in increasing the efficiency of service delivery. Therefore, to respond to UPM's call in this plan, Kolej Tun Dr. Ismail was merged with Kolej Kelima starting on 15 June 2019 and a restructuring of the principal and college administration was made.

The string, the name of Kolej Tun Dr. Ismail has been retained and used as the name of the college to this day including the use of the logo and motto.
